I was recently asked by my favourite clients to make over their formal living room. With one major renovation complete and another in the planing stage they wanted to inject some life into the little used formal living room. While it was true the family didn't spend much time in the room it was the transition space between the entry hall and the new open plan living space which meant everyone arriving would walk through the space, so it was important the space made an impact and introduced visitors into a beautiful well designed home.

I love using dramatic colours in formal living areas, as they tend to be used less often they can afford the drama and cocooning feeling of deep hues. This space affectionately became know as the Cognac room given for the leather colour of the re-upholstered sofa and the intended use of the room.
Finishes chosen include cognac colour tan leather for the mid century sofa, gold trim coffee and side table with the gold theme continuing in the Jason Miller Wall Sconces. Artwork is from Urban Road with Zebra print cow hide rug to finish.
