One Room Rescue - Office
I love our One Room Rescue projects. Time frames are always tight, budgets are often small but the impact is always very satisfying! Check out this One Room Rescue for a home office...
The front room in this inner-west 1800 cottage was going to waste. Previously the formal living room it was outdated and lingering in no-mans land at the front of the house somewhere between storage and hallway.
Step One: Paint over the horrendous suede effect walls. I chose an all-time favourite neutral - DULUX Dune.
Mark out and tape up for the feature wall. I wanted a graphic design that would work with the existing Ox chair and Flos lamp. This design would also look incredible in a empire style (think Great Gatsby) living room behind a black or tan sofa!
Step Three: Painting with patience is the name of the game, be prepared for some touch ups along the way... I chose matt black as the accent colour.
A couple of hours later, almost done...
Every office needs a great desk. While a table style desk would have looked the part I wanted to provide some practical storage. I chose some budget friendly black drawers from Ikea and spray painted the handles antique gold to lift the style value. The work top (also from Ikea) came in the form of a walnut kitchen bench. I couldn't resist the beautiful chevron pattern, not very Ikea at all...
Fit out the room with a cool geometric pendant echoing the chevron bench top, Flos floor lamp to illuminate the work area and of course the Fabulous Hans Wagner Ox Chair! Who wouldn't want to curl up and read the latest Belle magazine in this!
A few decorator items like the brass whale bone sculpture and Bromley painting keep things interesting... Who said practical spaces had to be boring?
